Best of both worlds
- Client:Disney Destinations
- Project:Ultimate Disney Holiday key visual
The Ultimate Disney Holiday combines the excitement of the Disney Parks with the relaxation of a cruise, and Disney Destinations needed to convey that distinctive offering in one key visual. Our concept saw us tucked away in a London studio on the hottest day of 2019, for a top secret shoot with the mouse himself. The end result was one beautifully realised, visually striking and adaptable image – ready to be used in the market globally, on every possible touchpoint.
What we did
On the Ultimate Disney Holiday, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds: the excitement of Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and the relaxation of a Disney cruise in the Caribbean or Bahamas. Disney Destinations needed a key visual to communicate this distinctive offering, without being too literal or misleading. But how do you convey so much in just one image, while still hitting the right balance of fantasy and reality?
We love it when a plan comes together
We wanted the visual to feel as natural as possible, so started by sketching ways to bring the holiday combination to life. One concept stood out – the idea of stepping from one moment into another, straight from the Disney Parks to Mickey on a sunny beach. The image would showcase both environments, but also suggest a natural transition between the two. Next came the really tricky part: making it happen in a photoshoot.
They say never work with children or animals, but that goes out of the window when it’s everyone’s favourite mouse. Whisking the whole cast and crew to the Bahamas sadly wasn’t an option, so instead we had to fly Mickey to us, dressed in his island-hopping finest. Coordinating with his schedule was a challenge in itself – he could only give us a two-week window to line up all the other elements, including our photographer, crew, models, stylists and makeup.
So on the hottest day of 2019, we found ourselves tucked away in an east London studio for a top secret shoot. The studio itself had been carefully selected – it had to be large enough to accommodate our set, positioning the family and Mickey at a suitable distance to look at each other naturally, while also allowing us to recreate the Caribbean midday sun shining from above.
Seen in all the best places
One day’s shooting gave us more than 500 images to work with, and armed with a multitude of poses and positions we set about bringing it all together. The end result was one beautifully realised, visually striking and adaptable image – ready to be used in the market globally, on every possible touchpoint.
